It was investigated the effect of some herbicides, time of their usage and increase of nitrogen according to quality and quantity of winter wheat applied in the phases of wheat growth. The investigation lasted 2 years and it was conducted on the Kavkaz and Djurova cultivars. The following results were : N fertilization had a great effect on yield and quality of wheat grain. The N application in the phase of growing into a cluster influenced the formation of great number of small wheat spikes and florets in the spikes. The influence of herbicides and time of their application was evident to the number of small spikes in the wheat spike. The application of herbicides in the early phase of winter wheat growth caused some stoppage in formation of definite number of small spikes in wheat spike, in correlation to the herbicide application in later phases of growth. Herbicides and the time of their application, as the factor of investigation, did not caused the significant differences of yield in correlation to nontreated plants. The application of increased amount of nitrogen evidently influenced some qualitative characteristics of winter wheat grain. By increasing the dose of N from 0,100, 150 kg/ha was progressively increased the content of protein and sedimentative value, in dependance to cultivars. Herbicides and their time of application did not influence the content of protein and sedimentative value. The experiment proved that applicated treatement (herbicides and N fertilizers) increased the production on the vertisols of SAP Kosovo (SFRY) too.
