Herpka, I. (Institut za topolarstvo, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia))
Presented were results of many years of investigations of variability between descendants and between clones of poplar tree of Aigeiros sections, important for their successful growing in intended plantations in dense intervals of planting and short turns of growing. The following characteristics were investigated: the acceptance of poplar shoot, surviving of annual plants in experimental plantation, production of poplar tree volume in m per hectare, i.e. the average growth age increase, the production of dry wood mass in tons per hectare, the voluminous weight of tree, the sensibility to bark cancer (Dothichiza populea Sacc et Briard.), sensibility to leaf disease (Marssonia brunnea (Ell. et Ev.) p. Magn.), numerousness of sprouts and total number of sprouts from tree-stump after cutting the experimental plants. The significant possibilities were found for the improvement of desirable characteristics. The definite number of clones showing the satisfactory results were cited.
