Physico-chemical evaluation of egg quality and prediction of shell quality traits in Rhode Island Red Chickens

A total of 407 eggs from egg number (En, 105), egg mass (EM, 111), egg mass: body weight ratio (R, 144) and control (C, 47) lines of RIR. The overall results indicated that the performance of EM line, in general, was better over others for various egg quality characteristics. Shell thickness, % shell and SWUSA were predicted by specific gravity alone as a single independent variable, while shell weight could be estimated more precisely with both specific gravity and egg weight as independent variables than by using either single variable
