Singh, J. | Shukla, K.P. (Gujarat Agricultural Univ., Junagarh Campus (India). Livestock Research Station)
The peak milk yield (weekly and daily) was studied in Gir cattle utilizing 595 lactations of 225 unweaned cows in their six lactations. The average weekly peak yield was 59.68 kg and was attained on 10.53rd week of lactation. The average daily peak yield was 9.53kg and was attained on 61.25th day after calving. Parity order had highly significant (P0.1) effect on peak yield and time required to attain the peak yield. As the lactation order increased the peak yield also increased, while the time required to attain peak yield decresead. The lactation order and calving season had significant effect on the days to reach peak yield
