Biology of cotton leafworm Spodoptera litura Fb. (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera) on cotton

The study was conducted from December to January when maximum and minimum temperatures varied from 21 deg C to 28 deg C and 2 deg C to 12 deg C respectively. Incubation period average 4.80 +- 1.68 days and hatching percentage was 87. Mean duration of larval period was 18.64 +- 2.75 days. Larval pupated in soil at a depth of 2 to 5 cm and the pupal period varied from 7 to 11 days with an average of 8.12 +- 1.41 days. Longevity of male averaged 6.30 +- 2.49 days whereas that of female averaged 12.30 +- 3.16 days. Male to female sex ratio was 1:0.67
