Efficacy of weed control, plant protection, irrigation and fertilizer schedule in a maize-wheat cropping sequence
1987
Sharma, J.P. (Indian Agricultural Research Inst., New Delhi)
In a 2-year 'Ganga 5' maize (Zea mays Linn.) - 'HD 2009' bread-wheat (Triticum aestivum Linn. emend. Fiori and Paol.) cropping sequence, weed control and plant-protection measures applied to maize did not affect the grain and stover yields of maize. Six irrigations given to wheat significantly increased the grain and straw yields of wheat as compared with yields obtained with 3 irrigations during both the years. A reduction of 25% in the recommended doses of N, P and K did not significantly decrease the grain and straw yields of maize and wheat in both the years. Further reduction in the level of N, P and K to 50% or more significantly reduced the grain and straw yields of maize and wheat during both the years
