Kim, Y.H. | Lee, J.O. | Goh, H.G. (Rural Development Administration, Suwon (Korea R.). Agricultural Sciences Inst.)
High yielding (tongil type) cultivars and Japonica cultivars were infested to evaluate their resistance to Chilo suppressalis W.. In pot test, percentage of dead hearts, percentage of larval survivals, and larval weights were lower in Japonica cultivars than in high yielding cultivars by infestation during the first instar larvae. In field test, number of damaged spots, total number of damaged hills were fewer in Japonica cultivar, Chucheongbyeo, than in high yielding cultivars such as Milyang 23, Pungsanbyeo and Chilseongbyeo. Percentage of damaged tillers, number of tillers/ damaged spots, and number of hills/ damaged spots were also lower in Japonica cultivars than in high yielding cultivars
