Cheonmabyeo was an early maturing rice cultivar developed from a cross between BL 7 and Nongbaeg at the Crops Experiment Station, Rural Development Administration in 1984. It has a semi-erect plant type, considerably high-yielding potential, tolerance to blast and bacterial leaf blight diseases and tolerance to cold as a japonica rice variety. But it was susceptible to virus diseases and most insect pests. Its number of panicles per hill and spikelets per panicle were slightly more than that of the standard cultivar. The new cultivar shows good milling recovery and high ratio of ripened grains compare to Reimei
