Surface runoff and soil erosion under established one-year old plantation of selected energy producing plant species pobreng kahoy (Euphorbia tirucalli L.), tubang bakod (Jatropha curcas L.) and castor oil (Ricinus communis L.) [Philippines]

Findings show that for pobreng kahoy, 57% of the variation in surface runoff was attributed to the combined effects of rainfall depth and antecedent soil moisture content. The variables that accounted for 65% of the variation in surface runoff under tubang bakod were rainfall intensity, and rainfall depth. For castor oil, 82% of the variation in surface runoff was explained by the combined effects of rainfall intensity, rainfall depth and antecedent soil moisture content. For the control, 57% of the variation in surface runoff was explained by the combined effects of rainfall depth, rainfall duration and antecedent soil moisture content. Variation in sediment yield for the four species was attributable to surface runoff by 43%, 14%, 13% and 35% for pobreng kahoy, castor oil, tubang bakod and control respectively. Castor oil produced higher surface runoff and sediment yield than the rest of the species used
