Development of nursery pots with plant growth requirements [Philippines]

Nursery pots were produced from sawdust and ipil-ipil leaves mixed in varying proportions and molded using a cold-setting binder, with or without fertilizer. The molded pot, shaped like an ordinary day pot, measured about 9.5 cm high with a 9.5 cm top diameter and 7.0 cm bottom diameter. Evaluation of the plant nutrients in the pots showed that the resin binder, ipil-ipil to sawdust ratio fertilizer affected the amounts of nitrogen, phoshorus and potassium present in the pots in varying degrees. The amount of resin binder and ipil-ipil to sawdust ratio significantly affected the crushing strength of the pots. Pots planted with seedlings did not degrade during the nursery and hardening periods. After outplanting the seedlings together with the pots in a forested area for about 2-1/2 months, the pots were completely degraded. The plants grown in pots impregnated with fertilizer showed a faster growth rate
