Vegetative characters as aids to the identification of grass weed seedlings in the Philippines
1986
Pancho, J.V.
In the Philippines there were 85 genera and 275 species of the grass family. With so many species grass identification became very difficult even if complete descriptions and keys were available. Oftentimes, it was necessary to identify grasses at the seedling stage when control must be done or when one wishes to know the botanical composition of any pasture sward where seedheads (inflorescence) were absent. Identification of all but a few species by vegetative means was almost impossible. There were about 65 species of grasses classified as common weeds in field crops. A total of 65 grass species distributed in 49 genera including their description, identification, and illustration was presented
