Exposure effect on diameter and height growth of Benguet pine

Results revealed that the highest average annual diameter growth increment per tree for all the three diameter classes was produced by the west exposure with 1.16 cm. This did not vary significantly with the south exposure. However, the west exposure showed significant variations over the north and east exposures with 0.80 cm and 0.77 cm, respectively. The south exposure on the other hand did not produce any significant differences with north and east exposures. Diameter class 15-20 cm gave the highest diameter increment with 1.11 cm in all exposures. The interaction effect of exposure and diameter class was significant in diameter growth increment. For the average annual height increment per tree, the north exposure gave the highest growth increment in all diameter classes with 1.03 m. This varied significantly over the south, east and west exposures with 0.58 m, 0.54 m and 0.57 m, respectively. They have similar height growth increments. These three diameter classes, failed to show any significant effects. No interaction effect was also observed on the height and growth increment between exposure and diameter class. Findings on the different soil properties such as soil moisture content, pH, organic matter content, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium contents indicate no significant variations among the four exposures
