Contribution to the problem of frit fly (Oscinella frit L.) harmfulness and control on oats

Oat is strongly attacked by the frit fly, Oscinella frit L. During tillering and shooting the stem bases are damaged by larvae of the spring generation. After panicle formation larvae of the summer generation attacks the caryopsises, causing ears to become fully empty. Especially high damages, above 50 % of grain yields, are observed in mountainous regions. The time-limit for controlling the pest and the method of damage assessment are given
