Data are presented on the absorption, translocation, metabolisation and persistence of metidathion in cucumber and tomato plants. It was found that after the application of treatments with products containing metidathion on tomato and cucumbers in the glasshouse, the residues decrease below the maximum admitted value about 8 days after the application. The penetration of metidathion in the plants, its concentration in the growing areas and the formation of two of its metabolites, in plant leaves was observed. After the application of treatments on the fruits, a large part of the chemical remains on the fruits and is removed by rinsing or peeling. It was also found that both the metabolic processes and the content in soluble glucids are affected as long as metidathion and its metabolites are present in the plant.
