A range of products are processed locally by canning, freezing, drying, bottling, etc. which include fruit and vegetable products and by-products, meat, fish and milk products and products of milling wheat, corn, rice and soya beans. Constraints to the development of the industry have been scarcity of foreign exchange, dependance on imported raw materials, inadequate supply of local materials, shortage of human and financial resources, escalating energy costs and the need to develop appropriate technology. Government support in research and development is provided by the Institute of Food Technology, Bureau of Standards and the Scientific Research Council. The Jamaica National Export Corporation assists in the marketing of Jamaican products
