Ivanovic, M. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
Observation of the influence of various terms of inoculation of sugar beet with the exciter of rhizomania, Polymyxa betae, on the manifestation of rhizomania symptoms and on the yield, under partly controlled conditions, shows that both the yield and manifestation of disease symptoms depend on the moment of performed inoculation. It has been found during the two years' duration of the experiment that early infections (April, May) have the strongest influence on yield diminishing. Symptoms were less apparent with later inoculations and with the latest ones there were no significant changes in the roots. Late infections influence the yield to a smaller extent, but they play an important role in the increase of P. betae population and survival of viruses in the cystosores of the fungus.
