The effect of litter size on the incidence of still born piglets in the first farrowed dams of Swedish Landrace breed

The average number of totally born piglets in a Swedish Landrace primiparous sows litter was 8.85 heads. The number of farrowings increased with increasing litter size, but the number decreased further on. The average number of stillborn piglets in litters of examined primiparous sows was 0.36 or 4.02%. With increasing litter size the stillborn piglets percentage decreased and with further increase of the number of piglets per litter stillborn piglets percentage increased too.
