[The investigation of biological, ecological and physiological properties of shell Mytilus galloprovincialis grown in a comparatively clean water and in polluted water [Adriatic sea, Yugoslavia]]
1985
Tusnik, P.
There were no significant differences in the allometric growth between populations of shell Mytilus galloprovincialis grown in a comparatively clean Strunjanski bay and in polluted water of Piran harbour. Length growth was significantly higher in shells of polluted environment. Sexual cycle course of both investigated M. galloprovincialis populations did not deviate from sexual cycle typical of this northern Adriatic shell species. Skin respiration was several times more intensive in individuals of the population grown in polluted environment. There were no significant differences in filtration speed between the investigated populations. Skin excretion was significantly higher in summer in polluted environment shells. Scope for growth was higher in polluted environment shells. Basal metabolism maintenance costs were higher in polluted environment shells.
