Organized production of turkey meat in Yugoslavia has a 20 years tradition and is in constant progress. Turkey meat is rich in essential amino acids, niacin and riboflavine, with low cholesterol content. Feed for breeding and fattening turkeys must contain optimum quantities of all nutrients in order to enable the maximum growth, development, egg production and reproduction. When making feeding mixture, special attention has to be paid to protein components and energy value. Their demand for vitamins is higher than that of fattening chickens and egg-laying hens. This applies specially to niacin and biotin. Increasing cellulose content in the feed, feed consumption is increased and feed conversion reduced. Apart from feed it is necessary that turkeys are given enough drinking water. Breeding and fattening production results also depend on microclimatic and macroclimatic conditions.
