Relative shrinkage of the Greek fir timber
1985
Russodimos, G. (Ministry of Agriculture, Athens (Greece). Forest Research Inst.)
The shrinkage of the Fir timper Abies borisii regis in applied sizes for various degrees of drying from the green wood to 8 % moisture content was investigated from 126 specimens taken from seven logs. The specimens were 120mm wide, 400mm long, and from 12 to 120mm thick. The statistical analysis showed that the relationship between shrinkage and degree of drying (moisture content %) is curvilinear and it can be better expressed by the cubic equation of the model Y=a+bx+cx(exp 2)+d(x(exp 2)x). The estimated equations help to calculate the expected shrinkage of the timber for various moisture content values from 33 % to 8 %. They are also useful for many other applications related to the timber size control
