Some of the ecological aspects of legume inoculation are discussed with particular emphasis on numbers of rhizobia. Other aspects discussed include the ecology of rhizobia in soils previously free of rhizobia and where rhizobia are already present, nitrate effects on the symbiosis, the ecology of rhizobia in relation to the environment, and inoculation strategy
