This investigation has proved that a reliable picture of the quality of river waters can be presented by the water quality index - WQI which describes total changes of 10 physical and chemical as well as bacteriological parameters. This paper shows the results for the river Mura (Yugoslavia) which belongs to the 3rd type of water flow.
