Effect of method of sowing on dryland wheat [of Bangladesh]

Sowing of dry land wheat in line, bidirection and roundabout method was compared with the traditional method, broadcasting during rabi season of 1986-87 at RARS, Jamalpur, Bangladesh. Bidirection method of sowing (1991 kg/ha), seeds equally divided and seeded in both direction, significantly outyielded by 25% over broadcast (1597 kg/ha). Comparable yields (1885 kg/ha) were recorded due to line sowing and the yield reduced to about 6% over bidirection. Plant population per unit area, tiller number panicle length, and number of grains were also increased following bidirection method of sowing.
