An investigation on the shading effect of avenue-tree

According to investigation of common avenue trees in Beijing, the author advances two new concepts-the rate of the light-lowering and the rate of the temperature-lowering and a new method of determining the shading quality and the shading effect. The product of the rate of the light-lowering and the rate of the temperature-lowering is the shading quality (M-LT). A unit of the shading quality is called the shading degree. The product of the shading quality and the shading area is the shading effect (P=MS). Using this method, more scientific data of shading quality and shading effect can be obtained than with any method used before. The data can provide a scientific basis for the selection and application of garden trees.
