Advances in the field of soybean genetics and breeding all over the world and research works made in the same scope by Northeast Agricultural College during last fourty years

The study on varietal response of soybean to different ecological conditions, and regionalization of the ecological adaptation regions had been taken as the prerequisite by all countries undertaking soybean breeding program. In the field of soybean genetics and breeding, Northeast Agricultural College (NEAC) followed closely the up-to-date world trend, and seemed to be more advanced on topics of breeding through interspecific hybridization, breeding for appropriate ecological types, and breeding for super-early cultivars. Several outstanding soybean cultivars have been developed and released in large scale during the last 40 years. NEAC had suggested "mass-pedigree selection method" and "pod detaching method" for soybean crossbreeding to replace traditional pedigree method, and started to undertake breeding soybean cultivars resistant to soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and frogeye spot disease. NEAC obtained a certain achievement on genetic study of soybean protein content as well as breeding of high protein cultivars, and made a tremendous advance in utilization of wild and semi-wild races for interspecific hybridization
