Studies on the growth, flowering and yield of Nevi, Citrullus lanatus var Neri (Thunb) Nakai and Mats
1980
Sakyi-Dawson, O.
The effects of pruning and irrigation frequency on the growth, flowering and yields of Citrullus lanatus are reported. Pruning and lateral branches reduced the length of the main stem and led to early flowering. Pruning to two stems per plant increased the total dry weight of the plant, while pruning to a single stem per plant decreased it. No effect on the pistillate to staminate flower ratio was observed but there was decrease in the number of flowers. Three-day irrigation frequency gave higher number of flowers and fruit yield, than 6-day and 9-day treatments
