The effect of post-harvest ripening on the germination of garden-egg seeds obtained at various stages of maturity, namely mature (marke-table), white, yellow and red ripe, is reported. Seed extraction was done after parts of the fruits were ripened to the red stage, and the red ripe softened on storage. High percentages of germination in all fruits ripened to the soft red stage occurred, the highest percentage and germination rate recorded for fruits harvested when yellow, and fruits ripened in storage. Differences between treatments at the 1% level were statistically significant
