A study of application of phosphorus to potential paddy soils of the Accra plains and its interaction with other plant nutrients
1980
Pabs - Garnon, O.M.
A greenhouse pot experiment involving two soil series, Akuse (Vertisol) and Amo (Inceptisol) was conducted to determine the effect of added phosphorus on the availability and uptake of P, Mn, and Fe by rice plant under flooded conditions. Analysis of samples of growing rice plants, supernatant soil solution and wet soil at 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8 weeks of age showed that P, Mn and Fe availability and uptake followed similar trends in both cropped and uncropped soils, the highest values of nutrients being obtained in the first week with marked decrease in subsequent weeks after planting/submergence. Releases of nutrients were significantly different for the two soils which reflected in the better yield of the rice crop in the Amo series
