The conditions necessary for successful management and production of livestock in Ghana are discussed. These include the necessity of fundamental knowledge of the animals themselves, up-to-date production and marketing methods and facilities, feed, feeding and feed costs, disease and disease control, finance, location of projects and efficient use of labour and equipment. The advantages of mixed farming are also discussed
