1984
Thrasyvoulou, A. (Aristotelion Univ., Thessaloniki (Greece). Lab. of Sericulture - Apiculture, School of Agriculture)
The activity of 15 enzymes in honey bee larval food was examined with the Api-Zym system. The number of enzymes and their amount increased in the diet of older worker and drone larvae ( 76 hours of age) while they remained unchanged in the diet of queen larvae. No differences in enzymic activity of larval food collected from two different races. (Apis mellifera ligustica and Apis mellifera cecropia) were found. The origin of the enzymes and their potential role in caste differentiation is discussed
