Varietal trial - peanuts

An experiment was done at 4 locations to compare the performance of 18 peanut varieties with the variety AK 62. At Ebini it was done on the 3 major soil types: Tabela sand (800), Kasarama loamy sand (810) and the Ebini sandy loam (820). At Kairuni it was carried out on the 810 soil type. The trials were planted during the short rainy season and repeated in the long rainy season (1969/1970). A third season's planting was done at Kairuni. At Ebini results obtained during the short rainy season were as follows: on the 800 soil type, Early Runner produced yields that were significantly better (5940 kg/ha) than AK 62 (4070 kg/ha); on the 810 soil type F 459 B was significantly better (4180 kg/ha compared to 2970 kg/ha produced by AK 62); on the 820 soil type, F 459 B again performed better. Results obtained for the long rainy season planting at Ebini showed: on the 800 soil type, AK 62 was significantly lower in yield than Early Runner, Florunner, Surinam and F 459 B; on the 810 soil type, F 393-6 had the highest yields and on the 820 soil type, F 427 B significantly outyielded the others
