Mahla, S.S. | Singh, I.P. (Haryana Agricultural Univ., Hisar (India). Dept. of Plant Breeding)
Among 19 hybrids, 'H777 x Tamcot Sp-37H' was considered to be a good hybrid as it exhibited superiority over local check 'H777' for seed cotton yield, harvest index, seed index, lint index, earliness index, number of bolls and boll weight. Increase in yield was associated with increase in number of bolls and boll weight. However, higher motes per cent and pink bollworm incidence drastically reduced the yielding potential of hybrids. Further hybrids were not so efficient in utilizing the ideal environment of north India (month of September). Superior hybrid 'H777 x Tamcot Sp-37H' produced only 43.64% bolls during the month of September as against 78.41% of H777. However, hybrids utilize longer fruiting period for boll setting (31st July to 15th October)
