Results indicated that the mutants showed similar response to the origin in germination at all salinity levels. Mutant M7-7/VB showed higher straw biomass and number of spikes and tillers than mutant TB/15 and the origin Numar. This suggests that mutant M7-7/VB has a high ability to lolerate salt stress. Subsequent work indicated that chlorophylls a and b, total chlorophyll, and chlorophyll ratio a/b were not related to salt tolerance of this mutant. However, straw analysis revealed that mutant M7-7/VB accumulated ions slightly more than the others. Mutant TB/15 responded similarly as the origin in all growth parameters tested
