General and specific combining abilities and gene action for covered smut (T. caries) and (Tilletia foetida) were studied in a partial 4 X 4 diallel crosses. The parents were Saberbeg' (B), CM 8287 (A), Pavon (C), and Bullbull (D). Saberbeg CM 8287 were susceptible (41 and 40% infection respectively). The range of the infection for the hybrids A X C, B X C and B X D was 17 to 40%. General and specific abilities were highly significant. The negative values of F(-0.03) and KD/KR 1 indicate an increase of recessive alleles for cover smut infection. The values of (square root of H1/D) 1 indicate over-dominance for the infection. The parents differed in about 5 pairs of dominant genes (K=5.322)
