Boroumand, H.
According to the recent studies on the taxonomy and biology of the melon-weevil in Iran, this insect has been identified as Acythopeus curvirostris Boh. by R.T. Thompson. The study of the spermatheca, pronotum and elytra indicated that there are four subspecies of A. curvirostris in Asia and Africa: A. curvirostris curvirostris (Bohemann); A. cur. granulipennis (Tournier); A. cur. persicus (Thompson); A. cur. citrulli (Marshall). The present distribution of this weevil, which is one of the serious pests of Cucurbitaceae, extends from Sudan belt to Israel, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, India and Iran.
