Abscisic acid level in bitter almond seed Prunus amygdalus L. as influenced by stratification
1988
Gaith, M.H.
Bitter almond seeds Prunus amygdalus L. were stratified for 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 days at 5 deg C plus, minus 1. The results indicated that highest seed germination percentage was obtained from seeds stratified for 30 days, while lowest percentage of cracked seeds was obtained from those stratified for 15 days and the control. On the other hand, seeds stratified for 30 days and soaked in GA3 at 1500 ppm gave higher germination percentage compared with the other treatments. However, GA alone was ineffective in this respect. During stratification level of free and bound ABA in the seeds and endocarps declained gradually, and maximum reduction was during 15 to 30 days. The reduction in the level of free and bound ABA during stratification was associated with increased germination percentage, especially during the first 30 days
