Flowering of four spray type chrysanthemum cultivars as influenced by number of retained shoots, planting date, day length and alar [Chrysanthemum moliforium Ramat., Jordan]

Four spray type Chrysanthemum moliforium Ramat. cultivars were studied under various conditions of growth and cultural practices. Plants planted in January 1985 and grown under plastic house were excessively tall and blumed in November. Open field plants of May 1985, trained to four shoots flowered earlier and were heavier in fresh weight than those trained to single, two and three shoots. Open field plants of April 1986, sprayed with Alar at 2500 ppm, did not influence any of the parameters studied. Open field plants of May 1986, grown under 16 hours dark, flowered significantly earlier than those grown under natural day length (NDL). However, those of June 1986 and grown under 16 hours dark did not differ significantly from those under NDL in all the parameters under investigation. Heading back, the four cultivars in mid-July 1986 brought largest inflorescence diameter in Westland Snow, earliest flowering in Westland Yellow and Westland Snow and heaviest shoot weight in Westland Yellow and Westland Snow
