Effects of harvest time, harvesting and drying methods on germinability of triticale grains

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of harvest time, harvesting and drying methods and drum speed of thresher on germinability and mechanical damage of grains in triticale, Sinkihomil. Grain moisture content (GMC) at 35, 40, 45, and 50 days after heading were 57.4, 43.8, 36.0, and 23.2%, respectively. Germination rate was highly correlated with GMC at harvest time and lower GMC gave higher rate of germination. The proper harvest time for seed production was 45 days after heading. At this time, however, it should be threshed at the drum speed of 600 rotation per minute (rpm) after drying less than 20% of GMC to keep up high rate of germination and emergence. In order to keep up high germination rate and working efficiency of harvester, the proper harvest time of Sinkihomil with combine-harvester was 50 days after heading with the treatment of the proper harvest time of Sinkihomil with combine-harvester was 50 days after heading with the treatment of the desiccative agent 10 days before harvest
