This paper reviews the Philippine experience in the transfer of technology to rice farmers. The approach is an analysis of the complex phenomenon of technology transfer within the conceptual framework of the social change process. Through the use of content analysis, this paper looks at some empirical studies from the growing literature on technology transfer in the Philippines which is fast becoming a research tradition. It also presents some suggestions for considerations by policy makers and action implementors. This paper focuses on research results relating to some major components of technology transfer such as the farmer himself, the technology, the extension system and the impact of technology transfer. In particular, the paper presents a socio-economic profile of the farmers and the problems or barriers to technology adoption attributes of the technology, the various strategies to extend the technology to the farmers, and the consequences of the technology on the lines of the farmers.
