Wildlife farming is geared towards the rearing and breeding of animals in order to increase their numbers in captivity and eventually in the wild. Mating cages for the agouti are made out of wire mesh measuring 1.2 m x 0.6 m x 0.6 m which houses three animals i.e. two females and a male. Limited space in the cages makes breeding easier. The cost of such a cage is approximately $150. The agouti can be fed on dairy pellets, raw cassava, pumpkin, bananas, bread, cooked rice, macaroni and corn. A little water grass (Commelina elegans) can be given at intervals. The agouti (Dasyprocta agouti) is secretive by nature and should be supplied with hollowed pipes. For successful rearing, it is necessary to know the behavioural patterns of the animal
