The Sugarcane Feeds Centre has been involved in intensive calf rearing since June 1977. To date, approx. 1500 calves have been put through the system. The calf rearing system is divided into 3 stages with animals being reared in individual stalls in stages I and II, and in a community pen in stage III. Feeding, housing and health management for the calves are described. Performance of calves (stages I and II) reared on different diets, and results of 4 diets with animals at the pre-cattle stage are given
