The effect of planting time and fertilization on some properties of wheat cultivars

The investigation dealt with simultaneous effects of the sowing time and intensity of the nitrogen fertilization upon some characteristics of various wheat varieties in the edaphic, ecologic conditions of the middle Banat (Yugoslavia). On the basis of the achieved results it could be concluded: the greatest values of the number of ears per m2 and per plant, height of the plant, length of ear and of the number of spikelets and grains in the ear were in the 1st sowing date (10th October). Sowing time had a smaller effect upon the 1000 grain mass and the hectolitre mass because these masses were more influenced by external conditions and the time of grain forming. The effect of nitrogen had a tendency to increase values of the investigated characteristics.
