Effect of Urea-N on growth and yield of some promising strains of aman rice under rainfed and irrigated conditions [in Bangladesh]

Studies on growth and yield performance of strains 5 and 297 and variety BR4 using various rates of fertilizer-N under rainfed and irrigated conditions during aman season of 1987 were conducted in Bangladesh Agricultural University farm. The fertilizer treatments were N0, N80, N120, N160, N200 and N200 P60K40 under rainfed and irrigated conditions. The varietal effect as well as the effect of applied nitrogen was statistically significant. The variety BR4 produced the maximum yield both under irrigated and non irrigated conditions. The strain 5 and the variety BR4 increased in yield upto 160 kg and the strain 297 upto 120 kg N/ha and decreased thereafter both under the irrigated and rainfed conditions. At 200 kg N/ha the grain yield decreased drastically in all strains and varieties both under irrigated and rainfed conditions.
