Ethylene regulation of abscission process in relation to age and seasons

Analysis of abscission process with increase in age of the Coleus blumei petioles has been made using ethylene during different seasons. Promotive effect of ethylene was gradually established. Sensitivity of stage-I and stage-II of the abscission process towards ethylene increased with progress of abscission and of age. Distal to proximal mobilization of different metabolites like total RNA, total nitrogen, total inorganic phosphorus in relation to ethylene treatment, age of the petioles and various seasons was analysed.
