A trial was conducted at the Farming Systems Research Site, Godagari, Rajshahi to find out a suitable Mungbean variety with high yield potential under characteristics rainfed condition of Barind soil. The experiment was conducted for one year during the Kharif season of 1982 with seven Mungbean varieties namely, Pusa Baishaki, 7703, 7704, 7706, 7715, K-851 and Faridpur in RCB design with four replications. The seeds were sown in lines on 17th April, 1982. The result revealed that significantly highest yield 1.21 t/ha was obtained from variety 7703 which was at par variety K-851 (1.24 t/ha) and 7706 (1.25 t/ha) respectively. Other yield contributing characters of variety 7703 such as plant height, no. of pods/plant, no of seeds/pod and 1000 grain weight was also significantly superior to the rest of the varieties. Considering all varieties, 7703 seems to be the suitable Mungbean variety to be grown in the Barind soil.
