The relation between the amylose accumulation of rice varieties and the Wx protein was studied with the method of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The results showed that, the amylose content in nonwaxy varieties increased with the development of grains but it decreased in waxy varieties 14 days after flowering. The waxy varieties were lack of Wx protein, and the level of Wx protein and the amylose content in nonwaxy variance of Wx protein in the nonwaxy grains varied with the rice varieties and the variance were mainly controlled by the order expression of Wx genes.
