Seed of 336 lots of local corn were collected from nine districts of Sharkia Governorate during 1981/82 and 1982/83 seasons to evaluate their viability and vigour and to determine the relationship between viability and vigour measurements at seed laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University. Almost of the seed lots collected during the two seasons exhibited germination and TZ potential percentages more than 90% However, around 47% and 64% of the seed lots gave good seedling between 50 and 70 percentages for the two respective seasons, respectively. The results of shoot length revealed highly significant differences and the seed lots of the first season ranged from 7.10 tp 22.05 cm, while those of the second season ranged from 7.84 to 23.97 cm. However in all cases, the variation from district to another was much smaller. Also, there were considerable variations among the seed lots concerning 100 Kernel weight. Positive highly significant correlation were obtained between germination and each of good seedling and TZ potential percentages. In addition, good seedling appeared to be highly significant correlated with each of TZ potential and shoot length.
