Two field experiments were carried out at Bahtim Research Station of Agriculture Research Center in 1979 and 1980 seasons to study the effect of mixing different summer forage legumes at different seeding rates with sorgo on yield, crude protein and total carbohydrates. Results obtained revealed that pure stands of sorgo plants overyielded is mixtures with guar, soybean and cowpea at the different seeding rates as well as the stands of cowpea, soybean and guar. Sorgo-legume mixtures were higher in crude protein content than their pure stands; lower in total carbohydrates than sorgo alone but higher than legumes pure stands. However, as the seeding rates of legumes in mixtures increased from 10 to 20 kg/ fad, the dry yield and crude protein decreased in sorgo-cowpea mixtures and increased in that of sorgo-guar and sorgo-soy-bean; while total carbohydrates decreased in mixtures of sorgo-cowpea and sorgo-soybean and increased in the mixtures of sorgo-guar. Higher production of dry yield, crude protein and total carbohydrates were obtained at the mixture of 7 + 10 kg/ fad. of sorgo + cowpea as compared with other mixtures tested.
