Comparative study of some Egyptian and American cotton varieties in relation to hill spacing [Egypt]

The aim of the work is to study the effect of different hill spacings on McNair 308, Stonevill 256 (G. hirsutum L.) varieties comparing with Egyptian cotton Giza 75 (G. barbadense L.) variety. The highest plant height, total number of bolls/plant, number of open bolls/plant and seed cotton yield/plant (gm) were obtained at 25 cm. between hills for all varieties. The highest number of days from planting to first opened flower and opened boll, seed index, number of survived plants per feddan at harvest and seed cotton yield per feddan were obtained at 15 cm. between hills for all varieties. However, the distance between hills did not affect significantly the number of fruiting branches per plant, seed cotton weight boll, lint percentage and all fiber properties for all varieties.
