Effect of sowing method, plant population, nitrogen and potassium fertilization on quality of sugar beet [Egypt]

Two field experiments were carried out at the Agricultural Research Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University during 1981/1982 and 1982/1983 seasons to study the effect of sowing method, plant population, nitrogen and potassium fertilization on yield quality of sugar beet. The results of the combined analysis revealed that, adding 60 kg N/fad. significantly decreased both sucrose content % and total soluble solids % with about 4 % compared with the check (O - N) treatment, However, planting sugar beet on ridges or in rows in the range from 33, 600 to 56, OOO plant/fad. and adding potassium fertilizer up to the rate of 60 kg k2 0/fad. did not affect the quality of beet root i.e. sucrose % T.S.S. % and apparent purity %
